    Eight teams from USTA Southern earned bids to play in the national championship round of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world by winning the 2017 USTA League 40 & Over Southern Sectional Championships, played in Mobile, Ala.

    Champion teams will have the opportunity to compete for the USTA League National Championships during October in Florida, while the men’s and women’s 4.5 teams will play in Mobile Oct. 20-22.

    Alabama and North Carolina led the tournament with two champions and one finalist. Louisville, KY was a standout with a champion and a finalist.

    Matches were played at the Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center, one of the largest muncipal tennis facilites in the country with 60 full-sized courts.

    This year’s tournament drew at least 76 teams with nearly 900 players from the USTA’s nine states. Players must be 40 years of age or older at any time in 2017.
